The Witch Part 1: The Subversion is a 2018 South Korean mystery action film directed by Park Hoon-Jung and stars Kim Da Mi, Jo Min Soo, and Choi Woo Shik❤.
A young girl is found by an old couple and raised in a small farming town. Their simple life is turned upside down when a group of dangerous and mysterious people come to find her and take her back to a government facility where she escaped from ten years ago.
This is one of those movies where you're sitting there biting your nails and wondering what's going to happen next. There is a big secret surrounding the main character Koo Ja-Yoon. Who is she and why does she have powers that her adoptive parents are apprehensive about her showing? I'm usually good at figuring out what is going to happen next in a movie since I've seen so many and they usually fit certain patterns, but this one has a good twist!

And Soon The Darkness (1970)
Description:
And Soon The Darkness is a 1970 British thriller directed by Robert Fuest (who also directed The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971), which I would recommend seeing if you haven't already!).
Two friends are cycling around the outskirts of France until the two have a fight and one friend, Jane (Pamela Franklin) leaves the other friend, Cathy (Michele Dotrice). When Jane goes back to look for Cathy she is missing and a strange man offers to help find her.
Review:
This movie went from being intriguing to boring fairly quickly. The main character, Jane, kept me invested but the mystery surrounding her friend's disappearance gave me more questions than answers.
There was a great sense of suspense for the bulk of the movie as Jane tries to find Cathy with the help of the mysterious people she meets nearby. There is an interesting language barrier since Jane cannot speak French. It adds to the tension and her feelings of helplessness when we learn that the area Cathy went missing is the same place where a woman died.
The music helped keep the suspenseful tone, and there were some fantastic close-up shots, but the plot dragged on longer than it should have. There was a steady pace from the beginning up until act two. After act two, it felt like every character could have been linked to Cathy's disappearance and it felt more confusing than entertaining.
The ending had a slight twist, but I felt like it didn't explain enough.
My favorite part was watching Jane outsmart people and not make too many classic horror movie mistakes, such as falling when running away.
Other than Jane, I didn't care much for the other characters. Cathy seemed super self-centered and surprisingly didn't mind being left behind in a forest. She even placed her underwear around in the trees (I guess to dry?) and then fell asleep!
In closing, I enjoyed Jane's cleverness and the music fit well, but overall it didn't keep me engrossed. The way the very last scene was shot was stirring, but the plot didn't tie together well. I wouldn't watch this again and I wouldn't recommend it either.
Hopefully, there will be some better films on my list coming up!
