Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

Description:

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood is a 1988 slasher film. It is the 7th installment and it stars Lar Park-Lincoln and Kevin Spirtas. It was directed by John Carl Buechler.

Tina Shepard mistakenly brings Jason back to life with her telekinetic powers that also killed her father when she was younger.

Review:

Oh boy, this one is bad.

The plot was originally intended to be "Freddy vs Jason" but those plans failed (until 15 years later in 2003) and we got this movie instead. Even though the story opened with some bad acting I was hopeful that I'd see some cool telekinetic butt kicking. I was excited that the main character finally had some ammo against Jason.

Unfortunately, Tina spends an hour and fifteen minutes of the film crying and failing to leave the area. We are introduced to some other teens that we know won't last long. There are four sex scenes in this movie to the point where I couldn't remember who was who. Other than Tina and Nick the other characters seemed to blend into the background and weren't very interesting.

In the last movie, there was a cohesive narrative. Tommy wanted to bring Jason back to where he drowned as a child in order to stop him once and for all. In this film, Jason is shot, burned, nailed, blown up and crushed by wood. It's hard to root for Tina when she has no plan and you know Jason is never going to die.

In conclusion, the acting was bad, the editing was choppy and it felt like it was slapped together. I lost interest forty minutes in and the ending felt rushed. There was even an infamous jump scare where it was "just a cat". I definitely do not recommend this one. Please don't waste your time. It could have been a lot better.
