Lights out (2016)

Description:

Lights Out is a 2016 supernatural horror movie directed by David Sandberg. The film follows Rebecca (played by Teresa Palmer, who also starred in "Warm Bodies" 2013). Rebecca worries about her younger brother Martin (Gabriel Bateman) after their mother sinks into depression and talks to a figure she can only see in the dark.

Review:

I watched the trailer for this movie and I thought it looked amazing. A creepy figure that you can only see when the lights are off, THAT'S THE SCARIEST THING I CAN THINK OF! Was this film scary though?

The film started off in a warehouse filled with mannequins, which made me feel uneasy right away. Then the scary ass lady in the dark appears and I'm getting sweaty.

Unfortunately, after the first attack we get to know Rebecca, her poor sweet (almost too unrealistically sweet) boyfriend, and her family, the movie became too predictable and boring.

The acting wasn't the best. Rebecca was too mean, Bret (played by Alexander DiPersia) was too nice, and the kid was actually alright.

I felt like the movie could have been more frightening if the characters were three dimensional and the mother (played by Maria Bello) had more of a fighting chance. She put herself in danger so many times it was ridiculous.

Overall, I'd only recommend this movie to someone who hasn't seen a lot of horror movies. It might be less predicable, but to me the story wasn't as compelling or terrifying as I had hoped.
