The Burning (1981)

Description:

The Burning is a 1981 slasher film set at a summer camp where a prank goes wrong and the camp's janitor is severely burned and wants revenge.

Review:

The camp setting was very Friday the 13th, which came out a year before this movie. I love slasher films, especially ones from the 80's.

This film was slow for me, but still enjoyable because the characters were interesting. Even though there was the "Jock" and "Outcast" characters, it was hard to tell who was going to die. Usually in slasher films its easy to identify the chopping list, but here I wasn't too sure who was going first, which actually made things a bit scarier.

The only actor I recognized was Jason Alexander (Dave), from Seinfeld (George Costanza). His character was the mediator between the "Jock" and "Outcast" character and he did a good job in this film.

Overall, it took awhile for the killings to begin, but once it started I was interested to see how it was going to end. I liked how they didn't show the killer too much, it made the final reveal gripping and made me wonder what his face looked like.

Would I watch it again? No. Would I recommend it to friends? Only if they like 80's slashers and have a lot of patience.
