Jason X (2001)

Description:

Jason X is a 2001 science fiction slasher film. This is Jason's 10th movie and it stars Lexa Doig (from the TV series Andromeda (2000)) and Chuck Campbell. It was directed by James Isaac.

In 2008 Jason has been captured by the US government. A scientist named Rowan accidentally cryogenically freezes herself and Jason. Four hundred and forty-five years later they are found. Now Jason is in space.

Review:

This movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't good.

This is the first Jason movie of the 2000s. It's been eight years since Jason Goes To Hell (1993) and now he is back. The writers had to come up with new ideas to revamp the story and they came up with Jason in space! I was excited to see how ridiculous this one was going to be and I was a little surprised that it wasn't atrocious.

The acting wasn't amazing but it wasn't as horrible as the last couple of films. The scenes in space (aka 90% of the movie) weren't as lame as I thought. It felt like they were in space and it reminded me of Firefly (2002) (go watch that show if you haven't seen it.)

Unfortunately, in 2455 there are still idiot characters who run off to have sex. Kirra Cooper has to be my least favorite character in the WHOLE franchise. It was surprising how characters in the future still couldn't defend themselves against Jason. Even after 445 years some people still knew who he was. That's a notorious person (even though he's not really a person at this point).

The cyborg character KM-14 reminded me of Alice from Resident Evil (2002) (even though this movie came out a year before.)  It was exciting to see her fight against Jason. I would watch a movie just about this character.

Overall this film wasn't terrible. I liked some of the characters and I thought the ending was a good way to continue the franchise (seriously Jason is never going to die).

I recommend checking this one out at least once if you have time. Especially if you want to see Jason turn into Arnold Schwarzenegger. I wouldn't put it on any "must watch" lists but I might rewatch it if some friends want to see it together.
