The Witch Part 1: The Subversion is a 2018 South Korean mystery action film directed by Park Hoon-Jung and stars Kim Da Mi, Jo Min Soo, and Choi Woo Shik❤.
A young girl is found by an old couple and raised in a small farming town. Their simple life is turned upside down when a group of dangerous and mysterious people come to find her and take her back to a government facility where she escaped from ten years ago.
This is one of those movies where you're sitting there biting your nails and wondering what's going to happen next. There is a big secret surrounding the main character Koo Ja-Yoon. Who is she and why does she have powers that her adoptive parents are apprehensive about her showing? I'm usually good at figuring out what is going to happen next in a movie since I've seen so many and they usually fit certain patterns, but this one has a good twist!

"It's okay we're cutting your arm off."
This is the most exciting film I've seen since Opera (1987). The introduction was quick and intriguing (even though the thing that attacks the gas attendant looks like a rapid porcupine). When the man's body is found later the make-up and special effects were impressive. The way the people who are infected contort and move their bodies is truly chilling to see.
I found certain roles such as Seth and Farell to be obnoxious, but I liked how their characters developed. Seth's biology knowledge came in handy which created some refreshing ideas to fight against the monster. Farell turned from kidnapper to protector.
With most movies I find myself getting distracted or wondering when it's going to end after the thirty-minute mark. Fortunately, I was interested to see what was going to happen next in this one. It's not entirely predictable and I wanted to watch till the end.
My only problem is the shaky camera, especially toward the last twenty minutes. It's so irritating that I felt like I was getting a headache. I couldn't tell what was happening at the most integral part of the story.
If you can put up with somewhat annoying characters in the beginning and found-footage style shakes than I recommend this movie to you. Overall the story is well written and enjoyable.
