The Witch Part 1: The Subversion is a 2018 South Korean mystery action film directed by Park Hoon-Jung and stars Kim Da Mi, Jo Min Soo, and Choi Woo Shik❤.
A young girl is found by an old couple and raised in a small farming town. Their simple life is turned upside down when a group of dangerous and mysterious people come to find her and take her back to a government facility where she escaped from ten years ago.
This is one of those movies where you're sitting there biting your nails and wondering what's going to happen next. There is a big secret surrounding the main character Koo Ja-Yoon. Who is she and why does she have powers that her adoptive parents are apprehensive about her showing? I'm usually good at figuring out what is going to happen next in a movie since I've seen so many and they usually fit certain patterns, but this one has a good twist!

Ghost Stories (1964)
Description:
Ghost Stories is a 1964 Japanese anthology horror movie, directed by Masaki Kobayashi. There are four stories which tell the story of samurais, a creepy woman who freezes people, a blind child, and a guard being haunted.
Review:
This movie review will be longer than my usual reviews because I will briefly talk about four stories, instead of one.
Story #1: The Black Hair
The first story is about a samurai who leaves his first wife to marry another woman in order to gain a higher ranking. His new wife is selfish and he realizes he loves his first wife. He travels far to go back to her, but she's not the only thing there.
This story was slow paced in the beginning, but became engrossing by the end. For me this was a "Don't take anyone for granted," story. It wasn't my favorite.
Story #2: The Woman in the Snow
An old woodcutter and his 18 year old apprentice travel miles into the snowy woods. They notice the sky becomes filled with eyes and the old man is attacked by a woman all in white. She freezes his body and tells the young man that as long as he tells no one what happened, she will let him live.
The music was unsettling in this story and created a creepy atmosphere. The scenes were beautifully shot. This was my favorite out of the four. It was more sad than scary.
Story #3: Hoichi, The Earless
This is a story of a young blind bard who is chosen one night at a temple to retell the battle of two samurai clans. It turns out that the ghosts of the battle are the ones who are his listeners.
I love the use of panning towards the characters in all of these stories. This story was also well directed and elegantly shot. Unfortunately the plot wasn't as entertaining as the other two. I lost interest halfway through.
Story #4: In a Cup of Tea
Honestly, I'm getting bored by this point. In total this movie is 3 hrs 3 mins long. From what I gathered, a guard of a temple sees a man's face in his tea and that same man is found in the temple, which is supposed to be impossible to enter.
Of course no one believes this guy when he tells the other guards that he saw someone in the temple. The fight scene near the end was cool, but this story was my least favorite.
Overall this movie was wonderfully directed. I love the way is was shot and it had a great style. The first two stories were more creepy than scary. The last two were just boring for me.
I'd highly recommend this movie to those who love gorgeous cinematography, but it is a LONG movie. I'd suggest watching a story a day if you don't have time to watch it all at once.
