The Witch Part 1: The Subversion is a 2018 South Korean mystery action film directed by Park Hoon-Jung and stars Kim Da Mi, Jo Min Soo, and Choi Woo Shik❤.
A young girl is found by an old couple and raised in a small farming town. Their simple life is turned upside down when a group of dangerous and mysterious people come to find her and take her back to a government facility where she escaped from ten years ago.
This is one of those movies where you're sitting there biting your nails and wondering what's going to happen next. There is a big secret surrounding the main character Koo Ja-Yoon. Who is she and why does she have powers that her adoptive parents are apprehensive about her showing? I'm usually good at figuring out what is going to happen next in a movie since I've seen so many and they usually fit certain patterns, but this one has a good twist!

Bone Tomahawk (2015)
Description:
Bone Tomahawk is a 2015 horror western. It stars Kurt Russell (who played MacReady in The Thing (1982)) and Patrick Wilson (who played Ed Warren in The Conjuring (2013)). It was directed by S. Craig Zahler (who is a writer for the new Puppet Master movie).
A group of men in the 1890s must set off to find three people from their town who have been captured by cannibals.
Review:
The only scary thing about this movie was how painfully slow it was.
Right away you can tell this movie is going to have some brutal death scenes. It also has some familiar faces such as David Arquette (from all the Scream movies), Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses), Matthew Fox (from the series Lost (2004)) and Richard Jenkins (Cabin in the Woods).
I couldn't enjoy this film even though there was a great cast. Kurt Russel is always amazing but it didn't feel like they were actually in the 1890s. A lot of time was spent watching them travel. The pacing was too slow to have any feelings of fear. I mostly felt bored and was wondering when the movie was going to end.
Rating:
There's a death scene in the third act that is one of the most violent things I've seen in a film. It's brutal, but not horrifying in the sense that I was hiding my eyes in fear.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this film unless you enjoy longer movies with a slower pace. The plot was an interesting idea but it wasn't as thrilling and spine-chilling as it could have been. I won't be watching this one again.
