Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988)

Description:

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is a 1988 comedy horror directed by James Signorelli (also Produced Saturday Night Live from 1974-2014).

Elvira (played by Cassandra Peterson) has found out her great aunt has recently died and is receiving an inheritance. She rushes to a small New England town only to discover she has inherited a haunted house, a small dog (she hates small dogs), and a cook book.

Review:

Elvira is a famous horror hostess since the 1980's. I love her style (minus all the cleavage) and her witty sarcasm. The puns she uses in this movie, especially by the end, reminds me of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

The best part of the movie for me was Elvira's 1959 Ford Thunderbird.

Other than the cool car and the spooky looking haunted house she inherited, this movie didn't do much for me. It's more funny than scary. There was never a terrifying moment, it's definitely for people who like Elvira's sense of humor and a silly plot.

This movie is full of breast jokes, but the small dog she inherited did turn out to be helpful to the plot and the ending wrapped up well. I didn't enjoy the Las Vegas dance she did at the very end, but that's what Elvira is about! If you like this kind of humor, this movie is for you.
