The Witch Part 1: The Subversion is a 2018 South Korean mystery action film directed by Park Hoon-Jung and stars Kim Da Mi, Jo Min Soo, and Choi Woo Shik❤.
A young girl is found by an old couple and raised in a small farming town. Their simple life is turned upside down when a group of dangerous and mysterious people come to find her and take her back to a government facility where she escaped from ten years ago.
This is one of those movies where you're sitting there biting your nails and wondering what's going to happen next. There is a big secret surrounding the main character Koo Ja-Yoon. Who is she and why does she have powers that her adoptive parents are apprehensive about her showing? I'm usually good at figuring out what is going to happen next in a movie since I've seen so many and they usually fit certain patterns, but this one has a good twist!

Raw (2016)
Description:
Raw is a 2016 French horror film. It stars Garance Marillier and Ella Rumpf. It was directed by Julia Ducournau.
A veterinarian student named Justine is forced to eat meat for the first time during hazing week. Her hunger for meat grows and soon animals are not enough...
Review:
This is not a film for everyone.
Raw is disturbing from the beginning till end. The camera work and atmosphere reminded me of Black Swan (2010). The main character, Justine seems meek and she falls into an animalistic world. People at her school seem to spend more partying, bullying and having sex than caring for animals and their rights. Isn't the school work extremely hard?
There were many scenes that confused me. The main one being the doctor Justine goes to see randomly lights up a cigarette and casually smokes in the hospital. What year is this set? When I saw a doctor smoking in The Exorcist it was because the movie was made in 1973.
The relationship between Justine and her sister was a bit confusing as well. Alexia bullied her, tried to teach her how to pee while standing up, made a video almost exposing Justine's cannibalistic ways and gave Justine a Brazilian wax. Why are sisters waxing each other? I think that scene disturbed me more than watching humans being eaten.
Overall this is a well-shot film. It has a persistent feeling of dread that helps audiences connect with how the characters are feeling.
I wouldn't watch this again because the story seemed ludicrous to me. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't rant about the ending. I would recommend this movie if you are okay with gore and like films such as May (2002) and Black Swan (2010).
