Description:

Shrew's Nest is a 2014 horror thriller film directed by Juanfer Andrés and Esteban Roel.

A woman named Montse (Macarena Gómez) fears leaving her home and tries to control her younger sister's life. One day she is shocked to find her neighbor Carlos (Hugo Silva) unconscious outside of her door. She brings him inside, but does she really want to help him?

Review:

The story is more heartbreaking than horrifying but the end is thrilling and the acting is captivating.

Macarena Gómez does an impressive job at playing Montse. Montse is extremely broken from her past, which is hidden from us. When we meet the neighbor Carlos, he is mysterious as well and the pieces start coming together as Montse's madness increases.

The first two acts were a bit sluggish and uninteresting to me. It made me wonder how Montse became such an obsessive person, but I wasn't afraid. Fortunately, the ending is very intense and makes up for the build-up at the beginning.

Montse reminded me of Annie Wilkes from Misery (1990). She manipulates and can keep Carlos from escaping because his leg is broken. It was unsettling to watch her imprison him. I also felt bad for the sister, who is Montse's only real sense of reality.

She says she does everything to protect her sister, but as her insanity continues to spiral she hurts everyone around her instead.

To conclude, I didn't enjoy the entire movie. I mostly enjoyed the ending and the acting was terrific but it didn't grab my full attention. It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't amazing. I wouldn't recommend this one.
