Cult of Chucky (2017)

Description:

Cult of Chucky is a 2017 slasher film. It's the seventh movie in the franchise and it stars Fiona Dourif (who is the daughter of Brad Dourif, who voices Chucky) and Alex Vincent (who was the child from the first Child's Play (1988)). It was directed by Don Mancini (who wrote the stories for all seven Chucky movies).

Nica (from the last movie) is now in a mental institution where Chucky continues to terrorize her and the patients.

Review:

"A true classic never goes out of style."

I went into this with very low expectations. When a movie goes straight to DVD, it's usually not a good sign. The last movie, Curse of Chucky (2013) was terrible. Luckily this one was a bit better than I thought it was going to be. The acting was poor except for Fiona Dourif and Adam Hurtig.

The beginning credits looked like the start of a TV show or a student film. After the first act, I felt like I was missing something in the plot. The storyline didn't flow well. It wasn't boring but I wasn't excited to see what was going to happen next.

This movie is filled with somewhat creative death scenes (lots of face stomping) and Chucky's murderous sense of humor. He reminds me of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

All in all, it isn't a horrible movie. I've seen a lot worse. I would only recommend this if you absolutely have nothing else to watch. I won't be watching it again but it was entertaining.
