The Witch (2015)

Description:

The Witch is a 2015 horror movie set in 1630's New England. This is Robert Eggers directorial debut and it stars Anya Taylor-Joy (plays Thomasin) and Ralph Inseson (William).

Review:

The movie opens with William and his family being banished from their town and builds a farm by a giant forest, far from their old town.

The scenes in this movie are beautifully haunting and shows the loneliness and isolation the family feels having to leave the town they grew up in.

It is clear right away that Thomasin, the oldest daughter, is an outcast. Her mother is very suspicious of her after her baby brother goes missing while she was watching him.

The plot was interesting, but the old New England accents weren't my thing. Some of the death scenes were too long for me and the dialogue dragged on at times. The witch though....

The witch was VERY freaky. Every scene she had was unsettling and scary. I also enjoyed the ending, which I will not spoil.

I would recommend this movie to friends who enjoy great cinematography.

Overall, this movie was too slow paced for me and I wouldn't watch it again, but I can appreciate it as a work of art.
