Ghostwatch (1992)

Description:

Ghostwatch is a 1992 British mockumentary horror TV film. It stars Michael Parkinson and Sarah Greene. It was directed by Lesley Manning.

On Halloween 1992 the BBC aired a fake report about a family in their haunted house.

Review:

Some viewers thought it was real.

This was a great idea! Real reporters played as themselves. They had a real number for viewers to call, a "ghost expert", people calling in to tell their stories, a reporter outside the house and a reporter inside with the family. Right away it has a home-made video feel to it that makes it extra spooky.

It was a bit slow and has a lot of dialogue but it is well written. If I was watching this in 1992 and had just tuned in, I'd be wondering what was going on. There's a long build-up, but the last twenty minutes is scary! There are lots of hidden gems people have found over the years. You can see a man through the window reflection and you can see him behind some curtains in the girls' room.

Rating:

It reminded me of the X-Files episode where they made it seem like they were on the TV show Cops.

I absolutely recommend seeing this TV movie, especially on Halloween. I would watch this again because there are little details I missed. It felt like I was watching old school Paranormal Activity.

It's has a gradual start, but this one is a must watch. Especially if you love found footage.
